Bet you thought that gluten free, kids, healthy and party would never belong together in the same sentence. Well guess what….it is possible to eat a really healthy protein pancake and have it so flavoursome and tasty that even kids will eat it and come back for seconds…yes that is miraculous.
Kids do not have to eat fried chicken nuggets, white buns and french fries. Party pies and lots of refined sugar might be conventional party food, but it is also a great way to make them obese, malnourished and unhappy. Food paradise is not always found at Maccas!
OK Let the fun begin…
Make pancakes the quick and easy and buy a good quality protein pancake mix….
Then you need a backyard, park or beach, plus some kitchen detergent to make bubbles.. some champagne ( with more bubbles) and a few beers ( with even more bubbles), a mob of kids and a few fun loving adults.
Cautionary Note before you embark on this enterprise.
I don’t mean to put a damper on this party…but first we have some pretty serious advice about what protein pancake mix not to buy.
“we have some pretty serious advice about what protein pancake mix not to buy”
Watch out for mixes which include protein powders made from whey, pea, casein, rice or soy….well what’s the problem with them you might ask?
The problem is that artificially made proteins are very hard for the body to digest. Doubly so for little people. Artificial proteins simply do not look like food to the body.
Oh and yes there is another really good reason not to ingest protein powders and that is because they contain free glutamic acid which is about as nasty a chemical as you can eat. These protein powders overexcite neurones in the brain leading to hyperactivity in kids.
Want a party full of hyperactive kids? No? Then simply remember that we are what we eat. If you give Kids junk food they display junk behaviour.

So avoid protein powders in food like the proverbial plague. Otherwise, you might need some heavy duty crowd control handy.
Preparation for your party
Start with a huge pile of pancakes. No children will not wait patiently…especially if they are 20th in line. Heap em up!!
Next have plates of dried fruit, yoghurt, sliced fresh fruit ( such as banana, apple, strawberry, and lastly some berries. Mixed berries are readily available frozen from your supermarket.
Add Custard too if you wish…
Well, nuts would have been nice, but it is simply not worth the risk…reviving a child with anaphylactic shock may take some of the shine off the party day.
Now the controversial bit….we suggest fresh cream. Oh no…surely you jest…I thought that saturated fat was bad for you? Well it seems that people got that bit wrong. Firstly fat does not make you fat…refined carbohydrates make you fat. And saturated fats are essential for good health.
In fact, kids need a good quality saturated fat to maintain health. Did you know that the transport system for many vitamins is saturated fat? And did you know that every hormone in the body can only be created from saturated fat.?
Oh and great eyesight relies on saturated fats too….as does correct cardiovascular development.I could go on and on. Yep eggs, butter and cream are great for you.
So please pour on the cream with no guilty pangs whatever. AND kids love cream. I have never met a kid that didn’t like cream. Maybe kids exist that don’t like cream, but I have never met one.
Now for the really good part…..drizzle time…
Drizzle on honey
Drizzle on maple syrup
Then perhaps a little more cream. And why not just a teeny bit more drizzled honey?
The great thing about pancakes is that you put the plates of bits n pieces on the table and then stand back. Each kid makes their own pancake and there is nothing for you to do. Oh and kids really like making their own pancakes.

Now here is the really good news…..did you know that complex carbohydrates combined with high fibre and high protein all subdue appetite? Hmmm. So these kids will be fully fuelled and happy to party without pestering you for more and more food.
Which leaves you time to be sipping bubbly or perhaps a nice ale as the kids exhaust themselves on the trampoline, chasing the dog, riding their skateboards up the hallway and swinging from the backyard tree, or running up and down the beach if you happen to have one handy.
So have a happy and very healthy pancake party….just don’t overdo the bubbly!
